Sparrows Dawn
Assisting Male Victims of Domestic Violence
Sparrows Dawn will be the first male domestic violence shelter in Victoria and provides victims with assistance and support.
The first male domestic violence shelter in Victoria.
Currently in Australia 1 in 3 men have experienced intimate partner violence (IPV) in their lifetime, which equates to approximately 750,000 men each year. With so many men in need of help and support there is only 1 domestic violence shelter dedicated to providing that support.
Due to many stigmas associated with male victims coupled with the lack of support services available, a large percentage of men commit suicide. The current suicide rate in Australia is comprised of 75% males.
The goal of Sparrows Dawn is to prevent men from reaching ‘breaking point’ by way of early intervention and letting them know that there is a place for them to go.

Men can also be on the receiving end of an abusive relationship!
It could be from an emotionally abusive girlfriend, a physically abusive wife, or a female partner who is demanding, controlling, manipulative or bullying using any of the 7 forms of partner or spousal abuse.
With this groundbreaking book, Counselor and relationship coach, Ann Silvers, M.A., breaks the silence surrounding the abuse of partners, particularly when the victim is a man and the abuser is a woman. It challenges the common perception that domestic violence and other types of partner abuse only happen to women.
